  • Battle of the Praise Bands at Gold Fest: September 25, from 6–10 p.m. at District Stadium, behind District 142 at 142 N. Main St. in downtown El Dorado. Bring a blanket for the turf or a chair for the street, and enjoy an evening of worship and community. All are welcome!
  • HAVERHILL ROAD CLOSURE: closed to through traffic EACH DIRECTION from 5-7:30 am/pm every day from Sept 12 - Oct 19.
I need to apologize:

Last Sunday, after pointing everyone to myreallife.faith and telling you to check out the message notes for Adonai it turns out that I forgot to publish them 🤦‍♂️ - they were all there, all ready, but I had forgotten to schedule them to go live on Sunday at 9am like I usually do. They are live now and I’m sorry if you went there and found the notes for El Shaddai instead of Adonai.

There’s a Place for You

God uses spiritual disciplines to help us look like Jesus and in the process, form us into a family. When we study, serve and give we’re worshipping God (giving glory to Him), we’re growing personally (to look more like Jesus) and the results of those disciplines benefit others (for their good). Disciplines like serving and giving make us look more like Jesus, and they shape the lives of the people we serve.

When you give financially and serve at Real Life you’re helping students find a friend and safe space to ask questions and grow in faith. You’re helping kids not just learn about Jesus but learn how to get along with others in the church. You’re providing a place where a babies first experience with God is someone besides their parents who is loving them. You’re helping people who come in person or join us online find a place to belong, to explore faith and in some cases, find a family like they’ve never known.

That’s why we always want to have a place for you to serve at Real Life and opportunities for you to give. Service isn’t just about getting a job done and giving financially isn’t just about getting the bills paid—these are disciplines close to the heart of God, and He uses them to form us and others.

If we want to help every person possible, it takes every person present. Where might God be inviting you to step in or step up?

A Yard at a Time
A Yard At A Time Campaign

Last Sunday we introduced our next building project: replacing the carpet throughout much of Real Life.

We’re going to tackle it a yard at a time. The project works out to about $32 per square yard, and we’ll purchase and install the carpet section by section as funds are available. We’re starting with the Fellowship and Family rooms.

If you’d like to help, you can give toward one yard, five yards, ten yards—or any amount. Every gift helps us improve the spaces where people gather, worship, learn, build relationships, and follow Jesus together.

You’ve given enough to cover 52 square yards! A yard at a time, we can cover a lot of ground.

This Week's Message

"Abba"
Pastor Corey • Galatians 4:1-7

This Sunday in The Names of God, we’ll look at Abba — The God Who Brings Us Home.

Jesus first uses the word Abba in Gethsemane, calling out to His Father as He faces the cross. Then Paul tells us that through Jesus, the Spirit teaches us to cry that same name: “Abba, Father.”

Jesus did not simply come to forgive us. He came to bring us into His relationship with the Father — not as slaves trying to earn our place, but as sons and daughters who belong in the family.

We’ll also look at the story of the prodigal sons and ask what it means to live in the Father’s house without ever really knowing the Father’s heart.

Find everything you need to know about what's going on for students here at Real Life! 

Every week during the school year our youth walk into Student Life carrying school pressure and big questions about who they are. For a few hours, they enter a place where they are known and reminded that they matter to God.

And the first thing they do is sit around the table and share a meal. But it’s more than just feeding their bodies, it’s providing them with a sense of belonging. As they eat they talk, they laugh, they share... and they grow closer together.

You don’t have to be in the room to make an impact. You can prepare a meal, join the meal rotation, or give money to help others prepare the meal.

When you feed students, you’re not just filling plates—you’re creating space for God to work.

Prayer Team:

This may be the most important thing that happens on Sunday mornings. Our prayer team meets at 9:30 in the Family Room and prays for YOU, the Sunday service, our volunteers, staff, guests and for transformation as we strive to look more like Jesus ever day.

Blanket Ministry Team:

Our blanket ministry provides blankets as a physical display of God’s love when needed most. Blankets are donated to those in the hospital or baby blankets are delivered to Branches Pregnancy Centers and other organizations.
  • If you’d like to help make blankets or want info email Jessica Pyle.
  • If you’d like to stop and pray over the blankets we have they are in the Family Room

Care Team:

Our Care Team meets with individuals following the service who are seeking prayer or wanting to take their next step with Jesus. If you’re good with people and have a heart to pray with and walk with people in that moment when God is stirring in their heart this might be a great ministry opportunity for you.

Cleaning Team:

This team helps us create a clean and welcoming environment for our guests and regulars who come to the building each week. A clean church shows our thankfulness for what God has provided and removes stumbling blocks to those we welcome to worship every Sunday and throughout the week.

If you’d like to join this group email Corey and we’ll get you the details.

We’ve got to fill space for one of our cleaning volunteers for the rest of the year due to a coming surgery. If you’ve got some time and could help fill the schedule on Sept 27 and Nov 15 we’d love to have you! Let Corey know if you can cover the dates for us.

🛄 Hungry? We have a FOOD PANTRY:
The Food Pantry is available to anyone at Real Life who may need help with a meal or more between paychecks or when struggling for various reasons. If you’d like to pick up a meal or two (or want to know more about this ministry) let pastor Corey know after the service.

Community Prayer
  • Pray that God would stir hearts to serve to help our kids learn about Jesus on their level, our students build their own faith and our church be a place where God forms people into full developed followers of Jesus.
  • Pray for God’s provision as we work to finish some of the projects still undone around our building. Pray for safety for everyone who comes through our doors. For the ministries that happen here each week, and for Real Life to continue being a place where relationships are formed, people are known and loved, and where we learn to follow Jesus more faithfully together.

Would you like to help? If you’re able to help with the masonry work, or hanging ceiling grid and want to just come down and work on it when you have time we’d love the help! Talk to Corey about what you can do and when and we’ll get it set up.

We are down to a few projects left to complete.

  • Masonry work on East Wall
  • Painting the newly completed drywall work
  • Drop ceiling removed in South part of room
  • Drop ceiling installed in South part of room and along West wall
  • New carpet is being chosen - lead time is 6-7 weeks
  • New carpet installed
  • Electrical fixed in South part of room
  • New base moulding installed
  • Stage built and sound/video installed

Today, September 11th, we pause to remember Today is a day many of us still remember vividly. We remember where we were, what we felt, and how quickly life changed for so many families. Twenty-five years later, we remember those who were lost, honor those who served and sacrificed, and pray for the families who still carry the weight of that day. We also thank God for the courage, compassion, and selflessness we witnessed in the midst of tragedy. May we be people who continue to love our neighbors, serve one another, and bring hope into a hurting world. May we never forget. This Sunday, September 13th: Prayer Team: Meets in the Family Room at 9:30a (anyone can join) 10:00am Worship Gathering: Join us for Sunday service in person or online. Kids Ministry: Age-specific programming during the service each Sunday Management Team Mtg: After service in the conference room Upcoming Events: The BEMA LifeGroup will begin meeting again this coming Wednesday, Sept 16, at 6:30p. Anyone is invited - we’ll be looking at Episode 57 of the BEMA discipleship podcast among other things. FOR THOSE WHO TAKE HAVERHILL ROAD: Due to the turnaround at the refinery Haverhill road will be closed to through traffic EACH DIRECTION from 5-7:30 am/pm every day from Sept 12 - Oct 19. This may primarily affect those coming during the week for lifegroups or studentlife events. There’s a Place for You Last Sunday morning, Pastor Corey shared that when we serve, God uses our service to form us into a family, to make us more like Jesus, and to shape the lives of the people we serve. If Jesus is King, then His authority does not depend on whether we acknowledge it. He is King whether we recognize Him or not. Our confession does not enthrone Him — it dethrones us. Kids Ministry - Age-specific programming during the service each Sunday Upcoming Events: The BEMA LifeGroup will begin meeting again on Sept 16 at 6:30p. FOR THOSE WHO TAKE HAVERHILL ROAD: Due to the turnaround at the refinery Haverhill road will be closed to through traffic EACH DIRECTION from 5-7:30 am/pm every day from Sept 12 - Oct 19. This may primarily affect those coming during the week for lifegroups or studentlife events. A Yard at a Time Last Sunday we introduced our next building project: replacing the carpet throughout much of Real Life. We’re going to tackle it a yard at a time. The project works out to about $32 per square yard, and we’ll purchase and install the carpet section by section as funds are available. We’re starting with the Fellowship and Family rooms. If you’d like to help, you can give toward one yard, five yards, ten yards—or any amount. Every gift helps us improve the spaces where people gather, worship, learn, build relationships, and follow Jesus together. We’ve already received enough to cover 14 square yards! A yard at a time, we can cover a lot of ground.Help Us Cover A Lot Of Ground This Week's Message "El Shaddai" Pastor Corey • Exodus 3:1-15, 6:2-8, 20:1-2 After years of waiting, Abram and Sarai attempt to secure God’s promise through Hagar. They do not abandon the promise; they take control of its method. Their plan produces Ishmael, but it also produces pain and consequences they cannot manage. When God appears again, He identifies Himself as El Shaddai—the God who knows when something has reached its proper limit. God gives Abram and Sarai new names, establishes the covenant sign, names Isaac before he is conceived, and sets the time of his birth. God promises to bless Ishmael, but He does not allow Abraham’s preferred solution to redefine the covenant. Faith trusts God not only to provide, but to determine when enough is enough. Bring your bag chairs, canopies and a towel or change of clothes. Upcoming Events: New Message Series begins this Sunday — The Names of God is a five week series exploring how God makes Himself known through the names and descriptions He reveals in Scripture. Each name shows us more of His character and calls us to respond to Him with trust, surrender, belonging, and faithfulness. 2 Women’s LifeGroups will begin on Sept 9th one in the morning at 10a and one in the evening at 6:30p - check out the women’s ministry posts for more info. Real Life has grown this summer, and we don’t just want to recognize familiar faces —we want to actually know the people God has placed around us. After all, if we’re going to be formed together in His Kingdom, we need relationships with the people in it. So stick around after church for lunch, water, games, and a little friendly chaos. We’ll have hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, watermelon and plenty of water, plus a water inflatable for the younger kids, water balloons, and some seriously wet kickball or wiffle ball. There’s nothing complicated about it. Eat together. Play together. Laugh together. Get to know somebody you don’t know yet. Whether you’ve been part of Real Life for years or you just found us this summer, we’d love for you to stay and spend some time with us. This Week's Message "YAHWEH" Pastor Corey • Exodus 3:1-15, 6:2-8, 20:1-2 When Moses asks God’s name, he is being sent into a situation he cannot control and carrying a calling he does not believe he can fulfill. God does not answer by building Moses’ confidence in himself. He reveals Himself as Yahweh—the God who is not defined, sustained, or controlled by anything outside Himself. Yet the God who needs nothing sees Israel’s suffering, hears their cries, remembers His covenant, comes down to rescue them, and promises Moses, “I will be with you.” Moses keeps asking, “Who am I?” God answers by revealing who He is. This Week's Message "The Slow Fade" Pastor Corey • Revelation 2:12-17, Numbers 22-25, 31:16 Most of us don’t wake up one day and decide to reject God. The danger is usually quieter than that. In the final week of iDols, we’ll look at Jesus’ warning to the church in Pergamum and the strange story of Balaam and Israel. Together they show us how divided allegiance can grow slowly—through the things we tolerate, justify, and eventually begin to see as normal. Idolatry doesn’t require us to reject God. Sometimes it simply asks us to make room for something else beside Him. Pastor Corey • This week, we look at Peter’s encounter with Cornelius in Acts 10. Peter expected the outsider to be the one who needed to change, but God used Cornelius to confront Peter’s own understanding of who belonged, who was worthy, and how big God’s Kingdom really is. Our theology, traditions, politics, culture, church background, and even our understanding of truth can become idols when we give them an authority that belongs only to Jesus. Following Jesus is not only about believing the right things. It is about becoming more like Him in the way we see and love people—recognizing that they are not projects, opponents, or outsiders, but people already loved by the Father. Our students have been meeting in the Welcome Center - but our hope is that later this Fall they can begin meeting in the Fellowship Room. While it will be a multi-purpose room for LifeKids, LifeGroups and Events, we also hope it will become a place for our students to grow closer to Jesus and each other. A safe space for them to discover, discuss and dig into God’s word together and with Amber. If you have a minute this Sunday, walk by, or into, the Fellowship room and ask God to bless our students and leaders this year and as they grow to live, love and look more like Jesus every day. Every week during the school year our youth walk into Student Life carrying school pressure and big questions about who they are. For a few hours, they enter a place where they are known and reminded that they matter to God. And the first thing they do is sit around the table and share a meal. But it’s more than just feeding their bodies, it’s providing them with a sense of belonging. As they eat they talk, they laugh, they share... and they grow closer together. You don’t have to be in the room to make an impact. You can prepare a meal, join the meal rotation, or give money to help others prepare the meal. When you feed students, you’re not just filling plates—you’re creating space for God to work. Note from Pastor Corey: Wasn’t it amazing last Sunday seeing 21 kids from VBS leading us in worship through the songs they learned? We actually had 27 kids on our biggest evening during VBS but vacations and other plans meant some of the kids weren’t able to make it on Sunday. But here’s something else I noticed Sunday, there were more kids in the audience! The 21 on stage weren’t all the kids we have. I don’t know if you are aware but our nursery (birth - 3) has been in the double digits 7 out of the last 9 weeks, that’s amazing! But it’s also challenging. With more people, especially very little people, one adult volunteer can no longer manage even with help from our students. Amber just informed me that she needs 4 NEW volunteers to keep the nursery running and safe. Serving in this capacity is not a life-sentance or even an every-Sunday obligation. But if you can love babies, change a diaper, and want our littlest people to have a positive view of church from the very beginning of their life we’d love to have you on the team.Serve at Real Life Are you New at Real Life? We'd love to save you a seat.Register for Pizza 🍕 Here This Week's Message "Good Thing - Wrong Throne" Pastor Corey • Jeremiah 2:11-13, Numbers 21:4-9, 2 Kings 18:1-4 God’s people did not merely abandon Him; they replaced Him. They walked away from the fountain of living water and exhausted themselves digging broken cisterns that could never hold what they needed. The bronze serpent demonstrates how subtly that can happen. God had commanded Moses to make it, and God had used it to bring healing. But generations later, Israel was burning offerings to it. Something God had once used became something the people trusted and worshiped in God’s place. Most personal idols develop the same way. They are often good gifts—family, relationships, achievement, comfort, control, possessions, traditions, or even ministry—that gradually receive expectations and authority they were never meant to carry. They bring school pressure, shifting friendships, and big questions about who they are. For a few hours, they enter a place where they are known, welcomed, fed, and reminded that they matter to God. The meal is a small part of the night, but it helps create that environment. Around the table, students slow down, connect, and begin to belong. It also removes a barrier for students who might otherwise stay home, while giving leaders more space to focus on relationships and discipleship. You don’t have to teach or lead a group to make an impact. You can prepare a meal, join the meal rotation, or give toward a meal, or many. When you feed students, you’re not just filling plates—you’re helping create a place where they are seen, relationships grow, and faith takes root. It’s a 24’x60’ large space that will serve several functions; It will be a large group space for our LifeKids, It will also be home to StudentLife our ministry to 6-12th graders, and it will be a space for church dinners and events like Pizza with the Pastor, Discover Real Life and LifeGroups. We are down to a few projects left to complete. Masonry work on East Wall Painting the newly completed drywall work Drop ceiling work in South part of room and along West wall New carpet is being chosen and could be here within the month New base moulding installed Stage built and sound/video installed Ultimately we’d like to finish this room out with multiple TV screens and a serving area along the North wall as well as space/gaming systems for our students. We appreciate your continued financial and physical support as we work to finish this space out so that ministry that leads to transformation can begin to take place in this previously unused part of the building. PS. The carpet going into this room (and our Family Room) will eventually replace all the carpet in the whole building, yes, even the auditorium once that East wall is removed and the room enlarged. Because carpet patterns and style do change we’ll be facing a clock to be able to make sure we can get enough carpet to do the building in a timely manner. More on that later. This week, we begin with the truth that human beings were created in the image of God to reflect Him within creation. Sin distorted that calling but did not remove it. We still give ourselves to something, and we gradually become like whatever we place at the center of our lives. The question is not whether we worship. The question is what we are becoming through what we worship. All week they had minecraft themed foods - but on Thursday everything was minecraft - Cubed ham, turkey and various cheeses and the kids loved it (thank you Dena for planning the meals!). One volunteer said commented how good the kids were and fun it was to have the ages mixed up in each group so they could help each other and learn together. It was a great week and Sunday morning the VBS kids will lead us in music with all the songs they learned!
